I am a dentist pushing sixty who spends hours each day sitting, hunkered over and bent to the left.
I was a TV addict who spent too many hours sitting and munching. My body had added girth and weight each year for the past twenty years. I was a grandfather who had difficulty getting up off the floor after playing with Erica and Jarrod. I was a former active person, but had become aerobically challenged.
Like everyone else, I had been thinking about some sort of exercise plan for a long time. I read books. I bought equipment. I set up a home gym. Every now and then I'd pick up the weights to move them from here to there. Periodically I'd clear out the excess junk that always seems to blanket the exercise stuff. Essentially, I admired my little gym for almost three years.
The catalyst for action (finally) occurred one evening last year. I was sitting in the audience at a local playhouse. One of the lead actors came out on stage. He was dressed in street clothes and he looked good. He projected vitality. Something "clicked" and I decided at that moment to do something. I was sick and tired of the way I looked and felt.
Call it serendipity, but I met Celia coincidentally just a few days later. I liked the personal one-on-one training she offered. It was perfect for me.
I have now committed to this major lifestyle change for almost fourteen months. I call it "training for old age." The specter of a bent, unstable, weak and hobbled old geezer provides the daily motivation. You can't go kicking and screaming into senility properly if you don't have the muscle and cardio to do it right!
Initially, motivation began with the decision to look and feel better. I then made an unconditional commitment to do thirty days of training, whether I liked it or not. For me, prepaying the first twelve sessions provided the necessary short term commitment. Over that thirty day period, positive physical changes were obvious and commitment became easier. At some point, I realized I had so much time and energy invested in myself I no longer considered stopping.
Now, fourteen months later, I actually DO look and feel better! I DO stand taller, both physically and emotionally. My endurance is improved. I know I can have the body I should have had during my forties and fifties. And the best thing? My wife saw the changes occurring with me and four months ago decided to begin her training. "Celia is amazing! After retiring a couple of years ago, I've wanted to do more to improve my overall physical health (reduce blood pressure, reduce extra weight, increase energy, etc.). I tried a variety of health/fitness programs and nothing seemed to work for me. A massage therapist I go to recommended Celia.

About Bill G... "I wanted you all to see this note from a man who's profession requires that he sit in front of a computer all day. He has accomplished a commendable amount of bodywork in only one month! The reason he has is due to his willing attitude, and a workout habit he decided to jump into with a "game on" commitment of three days a week without fail. Bill's progress has not surprised me because I knew he would improve in a hurry with a plan like that. He wasn't sure he would "enjoy" a fitness program when he first came in to talk about it. ''Celia has been a godsend to me. Earlier this year, I was feeling very sluggish, overweight, tired, and every doctor I talked to was not able to help me. My problem was that I was just out of shape. All my muscles had decided to take a long vacation and were playing havoc with the rest of my system. Celia and I had to wake them up again! She works with your doctor(s) to make sure any exercise program is at an acceptable level of physical therapy according to your current physical health. "I was referred to Celia by my physical therapist. I needed to learn how to walk again and get in shape fast! I had broken a tendon in my leg hiking up a hill at too steep of an angle. I had been on crutches for months. I worked with Celia several times a week for a month and was able to walk the cobble stones in Rome and other places on a vacation that Fall! I would not have been able to walk all day if was not for Celia's expertise in getting my body back in shape.
Due to previous automobile accident injuries Celia has also worked with me in re-activating my muscles. She works with you on an individual basis and does not allow you to go past what you are capable of doing. She always has her pom poms up with her cheer-you-on attitude while you are working out. As an alternative to taking prescription drug medication for osteoporosis, my doctor recommended I start exercising with Celia to strengthen my bones. Celia is very knowledgeable about osteoporosis and provides excellent instruction! I am able to exercise with Celia's guidance in the studio and then at home using elastic tubes. I really appreciate the help Celia has given me. It is fun and doesn't have side effects like prescription drugs do!

Working on this goal is one of the most rewarding for both the client and the trainer! I love to share the victories my clients have achieved with weight training, and although it takes time and a lot of effort, it is well worth the time to 'fall-proof" your bones. Valerie has made a significant change in her muscle density and that translates directly to her bone density. The results of this kind of training are visible and measurable with the DEXA scan. The percentage of bone mineral can inprove as well. Adding weight training regimen to a good diet with sufficient protein and plenty of hydration, and supplementation can significantly change bone profiles.
