Hello, and thanks for visiting my page! I have been serving west Olympia as a personal physical fitness trainer for 16 years. My very first client was myself and I still work with her every day!
Every worthwhile achievement begins with a dream or a vision. Some of you may know me from Take Shape Fitness, Olympia where I worked for 12 years as a personal trainer. I have shared in the fitness victories of many people over the years and love to help anyone training with me achieve their personal best fitness. I would be honored to share your fitness journey and help you achieve your desired fitness results.
I hold and maintain a 16 year certification in Personal Fitness Training from the American Council on Exercise. Since I work so often with those with special needs, injury rehabilitation, and metabolic disorder challenges, I am also certified by the International Sports Sciences Association in Fitness Therapy. This enables me to better serve and assist my medically referred clients. In the last 8 years my continuing education has focused on functional and corrective exercise and most recently completed courses taught by several national leaders in that specific field. I have been certified in Pilates MAT method by Pilates Fitness Carmel since 2002 and use the techniques for virtually every one of my clients to build core strength and improve spinal stability.
I do not do "canned" programs. I will look at you as an individual with a unique set of goals and challenges and together we will do the work it takes to develop your healthy body in a step-wise process. Many people begin fitness programs only to get only part of the work done. My intention is to help you finish the foundational work and move on to higher physical achievement knowing exactly what you are accomplishing and why!
It is my intention to impart to you the components of a complete fitness lifestyle. Including exercise in any form that fits your life and requirements as well as nutrition assistance and guidance. I will strive to add value and expertise to your fitness experience for as long as you need my help. I would rather you think of me as your "tour guide" than your "travel agent". I will go with you to your intended destination rather than send you there. If you will allow me to coach you, we can make significant improvements in your fitness levels.
If you are sedentary or a beginner,we will start your program with the end in mind. We will have days that challenge you and others that feel like graduations. I will raise the bar for you according to your ability. "The baton will pass" to your hand from mine numerous times in this "relay". You will grow in confidence and esteem as you experience "wins" in your practice. You can expect old "barriers" to feel like small speedbumps and be surprised to find all aspects of health to rise as you improve your physical fitness. When you "graduate" from my training I want you to be able to honestly say that you are living within and can confidently maintain a true fitness lifestyle. This takes committment, practice, time and focus but what better gift could you give to yourself or your family than your good health!
For the experienced person, or someone in training for a specific event or sport, we will break down the components of the sport or activity you aspire to reach and make it possible for you to achieve higher and more satisfying results in as short a period of time as possible. Creating athletic status is what coaches are all about. Some athletes need a "push", others respond better feeling a "pull". I will keep you moving forward with the components of the method while you keep your head in the game. It is my"event" to see you climb your mountain, win the event, or race. Hey...Tiger Woods has a coach, why not you?
For the physically challenged person, we have so much we can do to improve how life feels and impacts you! No matter your age or how long you've been living with whatever condition holds you back from enjoying your life physically, you have the same ability to achieve your goals as anyone else! We will find ways to raise your level of fitness and capabilities whether losing bodyfat, improving joint mobility, bone density, returning to exercise following surgery and moving from a point of "disability" to "ability" we can do amazing things with a clear picture of where we are going and how we intend to do it.
I do carry valid liability insurance and a current CPR certification. I'm happy to say I have never needed to use either of them, but I am required to have them and they exist for our protection and professionality.
I welcome input from you and value the information you provide while you are progressing. If at any time you feel any aspect of your training needs to change I want to know about it so we can take other options into consideration. For awhile it may sound like I am more "game-on" about your workouts than you are...that is partly because fitness is more "caught" than it is taught when it comes to your body's changing metabolic system. I clearly know what is in store for you if you are committed to your own success. As your coach I am 100% vested in your success and will see to it that if you remain committed you will succeed in achieving what you came here to do.
I don't pretend to "know it all" so if we need input from another source I will be happy to refer you to others in the area that can help you further. We are fortunate to have a wealth of health care providers and body-workers in our area and I refer many of my clients to them often!
Whatever you intend to accomplish, it will be more efficient and much safer with the assistance of a good coach.
